Xishuangbanna Tropical Flower and Plant Garden. (open 8.00am to 5.00pm. cost Y40)
The institute includes tropical flowers,fruit trees and an economic forest in this well manicured garden. It was established in 1953 but only opened it's doors to the public in 1998.
Covering 80 hectares, it's split into 5 different sections; grass,palm,tree dotted lawn,fruit tree and the economic plants section.In 2005 it was granted a 'AAAA' scenic spot by the National Tourism Bureau.
There are over 1,000 species of flowers and economic crops and trees, many of which are unique to Xishuangbanna, most are labelled in English and Latin.
The researchers here focuses on the economic crops and the cultivation of special flowers such as the Orchid, they also run a rubber tree plantation from the institute.
The parks has been visited by many party leaders over the years aswell as horticulturists from all over the world. They were all very impressed with what they saw.
Also on the site is a memorial to honour the highly respected premier Zhou Enlai, this is the location of talks held with U Nu, the Burmese premier, to discuss Sino-Burmese relations back in 1961.
